What is Pointscore?
Pointscore is our club's weekly time trial swim open for all members to attend.
This is a safe, supportive environment for your child to be introduced to rules of competitive swimming.
When is it on?
Saturday Mornings: the stroke events, that is, Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly and Individual Medley are held. Sunday Nights: the Distance events (Only Freestyle) are held.
How does it work?
Trials are held over varying distances, under race conditions with a Marshall, Referee, Time Keepers and Starter present on the pool deck.
Children are graded on ability starting in E grade at 25m and progressing through to 'A' grade, who compete in distances up to 200m in Stroke and 800m in Distance events.
The distance listed on the program is for 'A' grade Swimmers. All other grades compete at distance according to their ability.
All events are judged by a referee who will assess the technique of the swimmer, and offer advice to the swimmer on corrections required. Coaches are also in attendance to support the swimmers, and offer advice.
All events are timed and recorded.
What happens with the times recorded?
Children are given a copy of their time and encouraged to swim to improve their personal best (PB) time in each stroke.
Each time a child breaks their PB they will be allotted points, the amount varies dependant on the extent of the time break.
These points are tallied at the end of the season and trophies for the most points in each stroke and grade awarded at Presentation Night.
Children also receive a star in their log book for each time break, when they attain 10 stars they are given a small reward/treat in recognition.
What are the benefits for my child to attend Pointscore?

Can Parents help?
Unfortunately Pointscore can't run without parental help.
Parents will be asked to take their turn at time-keeping during Pointscore - you will always be with an experienced timekeeper who will assist you. Simply the more time keepers we have the more lanes we can run, and the quicker we get through our allotted races.
Assistance is always appreciated with setting up and packing away equipment.
